Richard Gough sends direct message to Olwethu Makhanya

Rangers legend Richard Gough has sent a direct message to the “outstanding” Olwethu Makhanya.

The nine-in-a-row hero was impressed with what he saw in the young South African central defender and no wonder.

Makhanya is increasingly looking like a great piece of business for Rangers, and a player who belies his youth and experience.

He plays more like a seasoned pro who has been at Ibrox for years, and not someone who has just arrived from MLS in August.

Against Celtic, Makhanya performed a hybrid role due to the unique brief given to James Penrice.

At times, the South African had to go wide on the left to compete against Camilo Duran. Not a problem.

Gough praises “outstanding” Makhanya

Rangers legend Richard Gough responded to Olwethu Makhanya’s Instagram post, praising his efforts in the 3-0 win, as well as sending a warning on what awaits next week at Parkhead.

“Well done young man. Outstanding performance. Just remember next Sunday will be a different experience with no Rangers supporters there and 60,000 of their supporters, stated Gough.

“Parkhead is where you can be a true Rangers player or not. Difficult place to keep your cool.

“So, my friend I wish you and the team all the very best next Sunday, as it will be a very different test for you and the players who haven’t played at Celtic Park.”

Olwethu Makhanya won’t be found wanting.

He has already demonstrated that he won’t be fazed. Whatever happens next week, Rangers can rely on this impressive central defender.
