Derek McInnes hands Rangers striker late lifeline after double injury blow

Rangers will retain their North Macedonia international striker at Ibrox Stadium to solve an urgent attacking shortage following severe fitness setbacks to Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti. The 27-year-old looked set to leave Glasgow before proposed transfer moves to Genclerbirligi and Feyenoord collapsed.

Unexpected Attacking Opportunity

Shankland faces around three months out of action with a hamstring complaint, pushing the isolated forward back into immediate starting contention. The striker marked his return by netting a decisive stoppage-time winner against St Mirren last week, demonstrating his value ahead of attacking rivals Kevin Kelsy and Ryan Naderi.

Derek McInnes Demands Ruthless Instincts

This sudden shift in squad dynamics mirrors the defensive setup, where John Souttar stays in Glasgow following his own failed departure. McInnes must now maximise his available firepower while managing squad morale, hoping to avoid the friction that prompted previous managerial changes.

Speaking to Read Celtic, the Rangers manager outlined his relief at the failed transfer moves. He said: “With Youssef and Lawrence’s long-term injuries, having Bojan in the building is a godsend for me.”

The club manager confirmed he expects his revised attacking line to be “more ruthless and more instinctive” in the final third. “Hopefully he can go and have a big impact for us,” McInnes added.

Rangers next face Celtic in the Premiership on Sunday.
