Rangers midfielder Kyle Glasgow has earned a fast-tracked selection to the Scotland U21s squad following an impressive start to his co-operation loan at League One side Alloa Athletic. The 16-year-old has registered three goals in 10 appearances across all competitions for the Wasps. His rapid international promotion follows previous youth appearances for Portugal, with whom he remains dual-qualified through his mother.

Early Exposure Proves Decisive Factor

Under-21 head coach Tony Docherty consulted Rangers manager Derek McInnes before finalising his squad for upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. The collaborative framework operating beneath the Scottish Premiership is designed to expose academy talent to senior football, an approach that validates the club’s co-operation loan strategy. Speaking to the Daily Record, Docherty confirmed the importance of protecting dual-national prospects. “Obviously, the situation you alluded to there is pertinent. But I think in general, it’s about making sure we look after high potential players,” he said. The national team coach outlined that McInnes’s willingness to utilise the lower leagues is accelerating youth development. Addressing The Herald, Docherty added: “Kyle’s a really good example of how the co-operation loans have worked.” The teenage playmaker, whose rapid ascent puts historic international records in sight, now prepares for a potential debut when Scotland host Azerbaijan at Rugby Park on 30 September.
