Rangers reign supreme in Glasgow – Old Firm double scalp for McInnes

Rangers reign supreme in Glasgow – Old Firm double scalp for McInnes

Rangers secured a 1-0 victory over Celtic on Sunday to complete an Old Firm double, with the back to back victories representing a great scalp for Derek McInnes.

The hosts had an early goal disallowed, but apart from that, they only managed one shot on target. Yes, you read that correctly.

One shot on target at Parkhead in an Old Firm contest.

That’s Celtic’s problem, but for Rangers the derby joy continues.

The only complaint can be that the margin of victory wasn’t bigger. Rangers should have been out of sight long ago in that game, which will now be followed by a three week international break.

This meeting of the big two in Glasgow was a classic six-pointer. A loss would have meant an eight-point deficit at the top of the table, but instead Rangers are biting on the heels of their greatest rivals.

After Rangers latest derby success, just two points separate the sides.

Naderi and Makhanya were Rangers best

For Derek McInnes’ team, there were big performances all over the pitch.

At either end, Olwethu Makhanya and Ryan Naderi were the pick of the bunch. They were excellent.

It was Naderi who secured the only goal of the game, but unfortunately, the South African had an excellent effort ruled out for handball.

It was a shame.

Once again, the former Philadelphia Union man was a colossus at the back.

McInnes’ men benefited from a man-for-man approach in this game.

The first half was all about duels, and the visitors came out the other side in the lead.

Celtic destruct in the derby twice in one week

Celtic attempted a 4-4-2 to rally in the second half but it was just as hopeless. They were abysmal.

Rangers’ season is now truly back on track, and all credit to McInnes and the players for the response in recent weeks.

In the space of a week, this Rangers team has proven its mettle.

Two convincing Old Firm victories whet the appetite for what is to follow in the weeks and months ahead.

Rangers reign supreme in Glasgow!
