Lee Wallace is back to his best this season. A new revival under manager Mark Warburton has seen the flying left back score twice in the opening day victory at home to St. Mirren, and not to mention he has been handed the captain’s armband, taking over from the departed Lee McCulloch.
Warburton is making the most of is attacking options. A solid defender, Wallace looks for very opportunity to fly down the left flank and support he attack. A huge benefit to Wallace is the signing of James Tavernier at right back. Rangers will be looking to cause opposition problems by letting fullbacks bomb on forward. Gone are the days of Wallace being squeezed out by opposition and being a shadow of his former-self.
Wallace sometimes goes unnoticed by Rangers fans for sticking by the club. Having signed pre-administration in order to compete in the SPFL and Champions League, the left back has been loyal to Rangers ever since demotion to the bottom tier of Scottish football. Albeit the full back was surround by mediocracy, numerous consistent performances have gone under the radar in lower divisions.
Playing against part time players for 2 years has not had a detrimental effect on Wallace and cries for a Scotland call-up are not far away, especially if the left back keeps performing the way he has been this season. Sometimes an unsung hero at Murray Park, Lee Wallace is destined for big things this year.
