Much to the amazement of Mark Warburton, Alloa defender Colin Hamilton slammed New Rangers loanee Nathan Oduwa for being disrespectful.
Warburton has denied that accusation as farcical. He has backed the Spurs’ kid to keep showing his skills, even if he is being branded with accusations that he is “taking the pi**”.
Mark Warburton has backed his mantra to send the fans home happy, saying:
“If Lionel Messi did that everyone would be on their feet.
“Nathan’s a young kid, he loves his football, he plays with a smile on his face. I’ve been told there have not been a lot of smiles around here for a few years yet the kid’s permanently smiling.
“There’s no lack of respect. It’s just a young man playing his football with a purpose in front of a passionate away support. I can’t believe some of the comments that have been made.
“I’ve said before I want to send the fans home happy and if we do that we’ll be in a good place come May. It’s not cheap following your team so we have to make it worthwhile.
“We’re in an entertainment industry and fans pay good money to go and be entertained and Danny Lennon made some very sensible comments after the match.
“There was no lack of respect from one player to another, there was no showboating.
“No one likes being beaten at anything do they? Footballers are competitive animals and don’t want to lose but sometimes you put your hands up and say, ‘Woo, that’s not bad’.
Oduwa has bags of talent and it seems farcical that he has been ousted in Scottish media outlets.
In the same interview Warburton revealed that at least one more player will be added to the squad before Wednesdays cup tie against Ayr in the Petrofac training cup. Rumours have circulated about the addition highly rated Chelsea midfielder John Swift or even Arsenal striker Wellington Silva, but both have not been confirmed.
