Danny Rohl delivers Rangers squad ultimatum ahead of St Mirren clash

Danny Rohl and Rangers face St Mirren on Sunday as their sole hunt for the league title begins.

Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Celtic last weekend, making the Premiership their only chance at a trophy.

The Gers sit six points behind Hearts in third, with nine games remaining to save their season.

Ahead of the game on Sunday afternoon, Rohl has stressed the importance of playing with intensity and ruthlessness, as he delivered a ‘nine cup finals’ ultimatum to his squad.

It’s now or never. Win or bust.

Rangers have won three of their last nine games, a drop off that could have major implications for the final league standings.

This weekend’s game has had a major twist, with Stephen Robinson leaving St Mirren to take the Aberdeen job.

Rohl insists the game will still be equally as tricky, but the onus is on Rangers to find a result and put pressure on the team above.

The Rangers manager spoke to Sky Sports before the eagerly anticipated encounter.

What Danny Rohl had to say

“You can see (last weekend) we did a lot of good things. We created a lot of opportunities, and we were very well organised.”

“They didn’t get one opportunity against us, which is all good things.”

“But now we come at a time in the season where we play nine cup finals, and it’s all about results.”

Rohl was asked about the silly amount of draws and claimed, “It’s all about winning.”

“It’s all about getting three points because this is our only chance to reduce the gap in the title race.”

“We’ve prepared really well this week, and it’s all about getting the three points and a good performance.”

With Stephen Robinson joining Aberdeen, Rohl was asked whether the news would affect the game at the weekend.

He said, “I don’t know yet, it could be in both directions. He did a great job with his group.”

“Let’s see who takes the job, but for now, I think it will be the caretaker from the academy.”

‘We don’t know what will happen, but it’s all about us, we need a good performance, we need a good intensity, and we need to be clinical and ruthless in both boxes.”

“If we do this, there is a great opportunity to take the three points.”

Head-to-head

In 53 total matches between the sides, Rangers have won 41, drawn 7, and lost 5 against the Buddies.

However, the last five matches have been much more even, with Rangers only winning two.

Most recently, the Gers beat St Mirren in December thanks to goals from Emmanuel Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard.

In the three previous games, the Buddies have drawn twice against the Gers and beaten them 2-0 at Ibrox in February 2025.

Robinson was the mastermind behind those performances, making this St Mirren team at the weekend an unknown entity.

With the quality in Rangers’ squad and the incentive of winning the league at stake, Rohl’s men must be ruthless.
