Rangers boss wants to speak with SFA after Halliday red card

MARK Warburton wants words with the SFA after midfielder, Andrew Halliday, received a ludicrous red card on Monday night.

The Ibrox boss is scared for the feature of the game if referees think that the Scotsman’s goal celebration deserved a yellow card.

Halliday was sent off for a second bookable offence by ref Barry Cook in the victory against Morton after he pumped his fist to the travelling Rangers fans before facing the home fans.

With many of the top Scottish officials travelling to La Manga in Spain on Sunday for their winter training camp, the amateur ref was left in charge of his highest profile game.

Halliday’s actions could have sparked a “riot”, Warburton was told. There is no yellow card appeal so the midfielder will miss Saturdays games against Falkirk.

However ‘Gers bosses still want talks with the Hampden chiefs, he said: “I will seek some clarity and some sort of explanation.

“it was a totally inappropriate decision. Andy is a local boy, a passionate Rangers fan and all he was guilty of was celebrating that goal. If that becomes an issue, we really do have problem in the game.

“I will wait to hear an explanation but it will just be the normal. Andy Halliday was guilty of celebrating a goal.”

Jeff Winter, former Premier League ref, thinks that the sending off has made Scottish football a laughing-stock.

Winter said: “the linesman over-reacted. Andy’s celebration was not incitement, he was in the middle of the pitch. I’ve not seen a crazier decision.”
