RANGERS manager, Mark Warburton, has suggested that Rob Kiernan could follow in the footsteps of David Weir, and make it big in the English Premier League.
The Irish centre back has been a pivotal player for the ‘Gers this season, including an impressive display away to Morton on Monday night as the Ibrox club as they made the gap at the top five points. Kiernan was subsequently named man of the match.
The Ibrox boss says that the defender has all the qualities it takes to make it at the top of British football.
The 25 year has played for 11 clubs in his career before joining the Glasgow giants from Wigan last summer, including a loan spell at Kilmarnock.
Warburton said: “He has that desire to become better and Rob is capable of going and playing in the English Premier League. David Weir has played at that highest level and thinks the same as I do.
“Rob has everything in his locker – he is both technically and physically outstanding.
“The work he does at Murray Park day in and day out is fantastic. He has everything and he could go on to play at the highest level.
“I haven’t said it up until now, but I’ve been amazed that anyone would ever have been critical of Rob.
“He has been absolutely outstanding for us – his quality of pass, his strength, his desire has been absolutely first class.”
He has missed only three games for the light blues since joining, and even spends his days off at Murray Park.
The manager told the club website: “He has come in here with a real focus and hunger to do well for the club and that has been displayed every time he has pulled on the shirt this season.
“I look forward to seeing Rob going from strength to strength. I’ve no doubt he will do.”
