Miller wants a good reception for Ibrox old boys

Former Gers’ skipper LEE McCULLOCH will be in interim charge of Kilmarnock this weekend when his side take the trip to Ibrox in the Scottish cup last 16.

McCulloch, who took over from Gary Locke after Killie’s 1-0 defeat last weekend, left the Ibrox club after 8 years of service following last year’s play off defeat to Motherwell. It was a rather bleak end to a long stint of Ibrox service and NOW current striker KENNY MILLER wants the ‘Gers fans to remember the good times that Jig had at Ibrox.

Miller, who was named Ladbrokes championship player of the month for January, reckons the fans will greet Lee Mcculloch with open arms when he walks out the Ibrox tunnel in unfamiliar colours. Miller said:

“There is no doubt he will get a good reception and he deserves it.

“He was here a long time, he captained the club and had a few successful years so I am sure the fans appreciate that.

“It wasn’t a great way to finish for any of the lads that left the club last season.

“We all know that was a poor season by Rangers standards and anyone who left at the end of the season won’t be happy with how it ended.

“Jig stayed with the club through the relegation to the bottom league and then winning the leagues so I am sure he probably envisaged leaving the club on a higher note.

“It wasn’t great but it wasn’t great for any of us. The guys still here want to right that wrong.

“Football is a fickle game. You can be the best one day and then next day be the worst.

“That is just how football is. But Lee was at the club for a long time and was a great servant to the club.

“I am sure he will find it difficult coming back. He was at the club eight years.

“When you captain a club like this, it leaves a mark and he is a Rangers fan as well.

“I am sure he is looking forward to it because it is the next stage in his career and you have to start somewhere.

“It is just a coincidence that he has to come back to the club he captained for years for his first game in charge”

Also returning to Ibrox will be former stars Kris Boyd and Stevie Smith this weekend. McCulloch and his cast of fellow Rangers men are due a good reception at Ibrox, providing his Killie side do not dump the ‘Gers out of the cup this Saturday.
