MIKE MULRANEY, ALLOA chairman, has told Rangers to stop moaning about their decision to change their pitch dimensions.
‘Gers manager Mark Warburton is bemused after the wasps changed the size of their pitch ahead of Saturdays clash at Recreation Park.
The side lines have been cut by more than 30 feet in total ahead of the Rangers visit.
The pitch was also clipped before the visit of Falkirk in January, the move is allowed under the existing SPFL rulebook.
Mulraney said: “Everyone knew the rules at the start of the season and if some don’t choose to read them it’s not my issue.
“We waited until midway through the season, when every club had played at out ground once, before applying to change the dimensions.
“It was magnanimous of us to wait until out ninth home game in the league and if other clubs don’t like it, change the rules.
“We have noted the past successes of other clubs, including Rangers in Europe, in adopting such a process. If it worked for them, why shouldn’t we follow their lead?
“It’s not my fault if other clubs are not reading the rules. Alloa Athletic were not successful in the first half of the season, so why shouldn’t we want to introduce changes?”
Graeme Souness, ex-Rangers manager, narrowed the pitch before a European Cup clash with Dynamo Keiv in 1987.
The Scotsman’s tactics helped his side record a 2-0 win for a 2-1 aggregate victory en route to the quarter final of the European Cup.
Warburton said: “How can you change the dimensions of the pitch mid season? I find that incredible.
“I’m a bit bemused by that. I’ve never seen it happen before. It’s not an issue, but I’m amazed it can happen mid-season.”
