Fantastic Forrester fires ‘Gers clear of chasing Hibs

Goals from Harry Forrester and skipper Lee Wallace helped Rangers to a 2-0 win over Raith Rovers at Ibrox on Tuesday evening.

With title rivals Hibernian losing 1-0 courtesy of a wonderful strike by ‘Gers loanee Andy Murdoch, a defeat which is now the Edinburgh side’s third defeat in a row, Rangers moved 14 points clear at the top of the table with just 9 games remaining.

After Rangers dominated the early stages, Englishman Forrester gave the home side the lead after a stunning effort from the edge of the box rifled into the corner of the net on 27 minutes. Rangers went into the half 1-0 but it really should have been more after a flurry of chances were squandered.

Six minutes after the restart, Warburton’s frustrations were cooled however. On loan winger Billy King ran by three Raith Rovers defenders before setting up Lee Wallace who drilled the first time shot under ‘keeper Kevin Cuthbert.

Forrester, now a man with 2 goals in as many games to his name for the Ibrox club, was replaced by Dean Shiels later in the second half, with Warburton seemingly keeping an eye on Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie with Dundee.

Rousingly for ‘Gers fans, 17 year old Liam Burt made his debut. The Scotland under 17s skipper has been in fine form in the Ibrox youth ranks this term and is well deserving of a call up to the first team squad.

Rangers now need only 5 more WINS to secure their return to the top flight of Scottish football.

matchday.
