Rangers return to league action at Ibrox against St Johnstone on Wednesday night.
The game will give the team a chance to respond to Sunday’s Betfred Cup semi-final defeat at Hampden.
It will also be the first time the two sides have met since St Johnstone won 3-1 at Ibrox in last season’s League Cup.
Michael O’Halloran starred for the Perth side that night, which attracted Mark Warburton into buying him in January.
Unfortunately, O’Halloran has barely been able to string a run of games together since making that move. There is an argument that his chance should now come as the likes of Barrie McKay are out of form.
Jordan Rossiter is closer to his return from injury, and Joe Garner may start. Wes Foderingham is likely to return in goal, despite Matt Gilks’ incredible performance on Sunday.
There is no doubt that the better team won in the semi-final and, although it was a much better performance from us, there is still some distance between Rangers and Celtic.
Mark Warburton has said that the gap is not as big as it was, but Celtic’s eventual dominance on Sunday is hard to ignore.
However, the learning process is well under way at Ibrox. By the end of the season there should be a truer reflection on how close the so-called gap is. This game is the next step towards that.
Here is our prediction of Mark Warburton’s team tomorrow night:
