Steven Gerrard confirms he’s interested in Rangers job
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he is interested in the current Rangers’ manager job, amid many rumours linking him to Ibrox, as per ESPN.
The former Liverpool and England captain is now the bookmakers’ favourite to become manager of Rangers, with other names linked including former Rangers players Derek McInnes and Frank de Boer.
Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty, who showed interest in holding onto the job full time, was relieved of his duties after the 5-0 loss at Celtic Park, which handed Old Firm rivals Celtic their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
The other Old Firm in the last few weeks saw Rangers lose 4-0 in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park, but the league loss was the final nail in Murty’s coffin.
Gerrard said in a recent interview (via ESPN):
Yes, there is truth in the rumours.
I’ve held initial talks with Rangers and the plan is to pick them up in a couple of days’ time.
I’ve held positive talks with them. I’m busy now for a couple of days but I will pick it up on Thursday and we’ll see if we can progress it.
Gerrard is now in Rome for the Champions League semi-final tie between Roma and Liverpool, but then he will fly back to Britain and may be in charge of Rangers sooner rather than later.
