Danny Rohl details Rangers dressing room promise, but there’s a massive problem

Danny Rohl and the Rangers players have described a promise made to themselves and extended to the supporters, on the sole objective between now and the end of the season.

Rangers now have one single focus: to attempt to win the SPFL Premiership.

They can pledge and promise all they want, but is it a plan that can be delivered?

The league table, current form, and the eye test cast significant doubt on Rangers’ prospects in the thrilling SPFL title race.

With Scottish Cup business taking precedence this weekend, eliminated Hearts had a free week, but the Gers failed to deliver once again when it mattered.

Rangers fail to deliver once again

They were the better team, they dominated possession and chances, but like the 2-2 draw last week, Rangers failed to get the job done.

After the Scottish Cup defeat on penalties, with chaos ensuing on the pitch when supporters clashed and other ugly scenes erupted, Danny Rohl insisted he was proud of his men and the performance they delivered.

He bemoaned the “small details” and the lack of a killer instinct that came between his team and a “deserved” win, but that’s football.

As the German coach acknowledged, what matters most is the result.

He was irked when his team’s mentality was questioned once again, and went on to describe a pledge made in the dressing room.

“We spoke after the game and we promised each other that we will go now in nine finals and we will try to win all these nine games and then we will see what we get,” said the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

He went on to reveal more.

“From my side, I see a clear direction, how a Rangers team should be, and there’s no question mark for me that we go again and again.

“My belief, my positive energy is more than here, said Rohl.

“If you know me longer, I’m not the guy to go too much inside. I’m more the fighter to go again. And with this confidence, I’m the leader of the group. I will show them during the week how good we are and what we can achieve.

“And six points in football goes quick. It could be two matchdays and then we will speak in a different way, and we will try everything,” he added.

The problem for the fans is that they have heard it all before.

With just nine games remaining and only the SPFL Premiership to play for, the supporters want results on the pitch instead of hollow words.

The last few weeks, and particularly the games against Celtic, have eroded all momentum and significantly damaged collective morale.

Rangers now need to win at least eight of the last nine games, from a position of drawing four out of the last five.

It’s not yet impossible, but Rangers league dream is becoming more like mission improbable.
