- Emmanuel Fernandez is a key part of Rohl’s squad; Rangers have set no valuation.
- Links to Bundesliga and Premier League clubs, including €40m fee, are unfounded.
- Rangers prioritize remaining “seven cup finals” before considering any starting player exits.
Rangers transfer business last summer under former boss Russell Martin and ex-sporting director Kevin Thelwell was a very mixed bag.
Players such as Max Aarons and Derek Cornelius simply haven’t worked out.
Others, like Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron, have already been shown the door less than a year on.
But there have been success stories too.
Emmanuel Fernandez is one such case.
The rise of Emmanuel Fernandez
The 24-year-old defender was signed from English side Peterborough United last summer for a reported £3.5m.
After an injury to Cornelius in November and Nasser Djiga’s call-up to the Burkina Faso squad at AFCON, Fernandez earned his place in Danny Rohl’s starting XI.
He has grown more assured as the weeks have progressed and has become a major threat on attacking set-pieces.
Added to his inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for a friendly against Jordan, this has sparked speculation about his next move up the football ladder.
The noise and speculation
Self-proclaimed transfer specialist Ekrem Konur has regularly posted about Fernandez’s future in recent weeks.
He has claimed that “Borussia Dortmund & Bayer Leverkusen” are “monitoring from Germany,” and that English Premier League sides West Ham, Arsenal, and now Everton have shown interest.
He even suggested that the Toffees have been told Rangers asking price has reached €40m.
The truth
While this has both excited and concerned the Ibrox support, it is completely unfounded.
Rangers have not set any valuation on the player.
While Rohl confirmed that the club “started this week to prepare for the summer,” this has been focused on incoming targets.
Thanks to new ownership, the club is not in a position where they need to sell key assets.
Rohl and co will not engage in any conversations regarding exits for major players until after the conclusion of the Premiership season.
In fact, Konur’s valuation claims appear to have originated from Fernandez’s former club.
While Fry has always been vocal about Fernandez’s talents, he is hardly an official spokesperson for Rangers.
He has no formal ties to the club.
His main motive for boosting the speculation is to secure a healthy sell-on profit for Peterborough.
The club he actually works for.

In today’s fast-moving media landscape, where everyone wants to be first with an “exclusive,” some figures enhance stories to raise their own profile.
Rangers fans should not fall for it.
Fernandez is a key player in Rohl’s plans. Rangers are not interested in selling and have set no valuation on him.
Block out the noise and back the team ahead of Rohl’s self-styled “seven cup finals” as they aim to finish off a whirlwind campaign on top.
