The Rangers FC odyssey of Rabbi Matondo finally looks to be at an end, with the Welsh winger tipped to join Norwegian side Brann on a free transfer.

The Rangers Review report that the 25-year-old will agree a mutual payoff for the remaining three-months of his Ibrox deal.

This allows him to link up with his new side before the end of March as a free agent as they get their Eliteserien underway.

They have lost their opening two matches and see Matondo as the missing element that can kick start their campaign.

After the closure of the main winter window Danny Rohl had said that “there are still markets open” for Matondo to move, and it appears one has finally been found.

Signed in the summer of 2022, Matondo played 70 times for Rangers, scoring eight and assisting 11.

Rangers target new defender

Rangers are far down the line with a deal to sign 22-year-old Dundee centre-half Luke Graham according to the Daily Record, as Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh is set to play a hands-on role in summer recruitment.

He is keen to get more out of the Scottish talent pool and sign the Premiership’s top performers to Rangers deals.

With Nasser Djiga and Derek Cornelius set to return to their parent clubs in the summer, the Gers will be light at the heart of defence.

The Dees defender has scored three goals in 35 games for Stephen Pressley’s side this term.

They have kept six clean sheets in fixtures he has played.

Young guns put on a show

On a weekend with no first-team action during the international break, Gers fans turned up at Rugby Park in numbers.

They were there to see Rangers U19’s defeat Kilmarnock 2-0 in the CAS Elite League.

Defender Conor Owen headed home the opener in the first half before Kyle Glasgow doubled the advantage in the second.

Glasgow has recently signed a professional contract with the first team.

He was even tipped for his debut against Annan in the Scottish Cup earlier this year.

Red tape denied him his Ibrox bow due to only being 15 at the time but Rohl is keen to involve the teenager moving forward.

His goal against Killie will do him no harm on that front.

Both he and Ashton Scally were forbidden to feature in the January Cup game with Rohl praising the pair.

“These are high-potential players,” he explained.

“We like them, we want to keep them, very high-potential players for us for the future, and hopefully if they have the right age, they can help us as well.

“They could use this opportunity to play, but there are some rules.”

Youth boss Malky Thomson talked up his team’s chances of winning their own league title.

“We’re taking everything game by game,” he said. “We’re the same as the men’s first-team in terms of going into the season looking to win the league.

“You always have that game to game mentality, and we want to win the league.”

Whittaker departs, Murphy steps up

Former Rangers defender Steven Whittaker has departed Championship side Ayr United.

The ex-Ibrox defender was assistant to ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown at Somerset Park.

However, a run of nine without a win has seen their time cut short.

The former Hibs duo departed via ‘mutual consent’ according to the Ayrshire club.

Former Gers and current Ayr winger Jamie Murphy will lead the side’s training today and will help coach until a replacement is found.
