- Mikey Moore details first conversation with Danny Rohl
- The 18-year-old scored for Rangers in January’s Old Firm victory at Parkhead
- Tottenham Hotspur loanee thriving under German coach’s system
Mikey Moore has spoken out about his time on loan at Rangers in a new interview with The Athletic.
The youngster has scored six goals and two assists for the Ibrox club so far and seems to be thriving under the stewardship of Danny Rohl.
Moore’s most recent goal for the Gers was in the 4-1 rout over Aberdeen at Ibrox before the international break.
Rohl said Mikey Moore would make an impact in first meeting
Moore endured a tough start to life in Glasgow as Rangers toiled during the nightmare that was Russell Martin’s short-lived tenure.
Danny Rohl was announced as Martin’s successor in late October and the 18-year-old detailed their first encounter.
He said: ‘You’re not starting but don’t worry you’re going to come on and make an impact today’ — and I did.
“He told me I was going to be a massive player for us. It gave me belief in myself and made me feel wanted by him.”
There was a lot of hype surrounding Moore when he arrived at Ibrox and what is evident is how low in confidence the youngster was when Rohl arrived.
The teenager’s belief in himself has grown with the goals he has scored of late and the German’s man management must be lauded for telling Moore that he believes in him.
Scoring in the Old Firm derby
Since January, Moore has cemented himself in the team starting with his goal in the 3-1 victory against Celtic in the first match of 2026.
“We were under the cosh that first half and it would have been easy to go hiding. I knew I had to do something so I kept wanting the ball. That was my reward for keeping going.”
The strike in the Old Firm derby showed that Moore can step up in the big moments, a requirement of any Rangers striker and further highlighted the positive impact that Rohl has had on the teen.
Moore enjoying playing under Rohl
Rangers have adopted a 4-2-2-2 formation under Rohl which places Moore in the inside left and in turn has allowed the 18-year-old to thrive.
“I’ve enjoyed being inside the pitch and making stuff happen on the half-turn.
“I feel a lot more responsibility on the pitch now and have learned the game quickly. I’ve learned when to offload the ball and when to be direct.”
It is abundantly clear how much Moore is relishing learning from Rohl which demonstrates how much the manager is aiding his development but crucially knows what is needed to get the best out of him.

What the recent interview with Mikey Moore tells us is although he must be applauded for his performances of late, the impact of Danny Rohl cannot be questioned.
Rohl arrived at Ibrox to a club low in confidence and the belief and trust he has in his players and that they have in him will be crucial for the games that lie ahead.
There remains a question mark over whether Moore will return to Tottenham at the end of the season and the relationship between himself and Rohl could have a large part in the next stage of his journey.
