  • Rangers target Silas Andersen and David Watson to boost summer transfer window options.
  • Chief commercial officer David French departs; Fraser Thornton interim.
  • Lewis Stewart attracting Premier League interest; contract talks needed to keep him.

Rangers have been tipped to boost their midfield options in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Two names mentioned are BK Haken star Silas Andersen and Kilmarnock youngster David Watson.

Andersen spoke this week about recent speculation with Danish outlet Bold.

“I’m really happy to play here. This is where I had my breakthrough – and it’s still going strong,” he explained.

“We made a plan when I moved here, which was that I would play a lot of matches and develop.

“The plan has always been that I would switch this summer, but now we’ll have to see.

“I am still really happy and satisfied here.”

This suggests that the player would be open to a move, including one to Ibrox, but if Danny Rohl wants the player – the move needs to be made in the upcoming window.

Watson, alongside his links to Ibrox, has been rumoured to be interesting both Celtic and now Italian Serie A side Bologna.

He has played over 90 Premiership matches and has been a standout in Killie’s side for several seasons.

His contract expires this summer, meaning Rangers can move for the player now if they so wish.

However, with Andersen also linked and Jens Hjertø-Dahl remaining a target, he appears further down on Rohl’s shopping list.

Commercial director steps down

Rangers have announced the departure of chief commercial officer David French.

French, who joined the club in December after a spell as CEO at Ireland’s Aviva Stadium, leaves after only a few months in the role.

Rangers directorFraser Thornton will take over on an interim basis, while Andrew Cavenagh will evaluate the club’s next steps following the boardroom changes, according to the Rangers Review’s Chris Jack.

The Light Blues had begun to find stability after the dismissals of Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell in late November.

However, with French’s sudden departure, Rangers are once again on the hunt for a commercial appointment.

This comes only a month after Jim Gillespie started his role as new Rangers CEO, but it is unknown if this had any impact on the reshuffle.

English giants target Rangers’ Alloa loanee

Rangers look set to lose talented teenager Lewis Stewart, who is drawing interest from Premier League clubs.

The 18-year-old winger is currently on loan at Alloa Athletic in Scottish League One, but his long-term future at Ibrox remains uncertain.

Only months remain on the three-year deal he signed in 2023.

Stewart could leave this summer if fresh terms are not agreed soon.

According to the Daily Record, his performances for Alloa have attracted attention from both English top-flight sides and rival Scottish Premiership clubs.

The Scotland U19 international has three goals and five assists for the Wasps this season.

Fellow Ibrox youngsters Calum Adamson, Callum Burnside and Josh Gentles are also at the Recreation Ground on temporary deals.

Italy boss departs

Former Rangers midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has resigned from his role as Italian national team coach.

The AC Milan legend and 2006 World Cup winner has departed his role with Italy following their failure to qualify for this summers showpiece tournament.

They were eliminated from the playoffs by Nikola Katic’s Bosnia, meaning they will miss out on a third consecutive World Cup.

He follows national delegation chief Gianluigi Buffon and Italian Federation president Gabriele Gravina in departing.

“Resigning one minute after the end of the match against Bosnia was an urgent act, one that came from deep within me,” explained Buffon.

“As spontaneous as the tears and that heartache that I know I share with all of you.”

Gattuso spent 18 months at Ibrox from the summer of 1997 until October 1998, he made 51 appearences, scoring five times.
