Former Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey has announced his retirement from professional football today.
The 35-year-old former Wales international announced his decision via Instagram.
“This has not been an easy decision to make. After a lot of consideration, I have decided to retire from football,” he wrote.
“Firstly, I want to start with Wales. It has been my privilege to wear the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments in it.
“It would not have been possible without the incredible input of all the managers I have played under and all the staff who have helped me in many ways.
“Secondly, thank you to all the clubs I’ve been lucky enough to play for.
“Thank you to all the managers and staff that have helped me be able to live my dream and play at the highest level.
“And a huge thank you to my wife and children and all my family. Without you by my side throughout, none of this would have been possible.”
Ramsey joined Rangers on loan in January 2022, spending six months at Ibrox and winning the Scottish Cup with the club.
He infamously missed his penalty in the 2022 Europa League final against Frankfurt but did net against Celtic and Dundee during his spell in Scotland.
He retires after a short stint with Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
Rangers continue Luke Graham chase
Defensive reinforcements are a priority amid expected departures, loans ending, and inconsistent performances at the back.
Graham’s passing range, aerial dominance, and profile fit Danny Rohl’s tactical system and long-term vision.
Rohl refused to comment directly on the player.
“In general, I don’t speak about names,” he said.
“We have regular meetings every week, to sit together and watch players with different profiles.”
Steven Gerrard praises Rohl
Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has praised the work done by Rohl since his October appointment at Ibrox.
The Liverpool legend was initially linked with a return to Scotland, before walking away from talks, with Rohl being appointed weeks later.
When asked by fellow former Gers boss Ally McCoist on TalkSport on the German he was full of praise.
“He’s been phenomenal. What was it, 13 points? He’s come in and said all the right things,” Gerrard said.
“He’s signed good players, and he’s been immaculate.”
Rangers are now six wins from the Premiership title, an incredible feat given their early season woes under Russell Martin.
Falkirk boss sends Rangers warning
Rangers travel to Falkirk for the first of what could be two visits to the Falkirk Stadium within the next several weeks.
Rohl’s side need to maintain their form and continue to win on their hopeful route to the Premiership crown.
Falkirk secured a top-six finish with their win away to Motherwell on Saturday.
“We are playing in big games all the time now and we’re going to finish the season by playing in big games,” he explained.
“We’re looking forward to playing our part next week against Rangers.”
