- Rangers academy graduate Robbie Ure has found his goalscoring touch in Sweden
- Ure struggled to break into the Gers first team in 2023
- He has since become one of the hottest properties on the continent
Rangers academy graduate Robbie Ure has found his elite goalscoring touch in the Allsvenskan for IK Sirius.
Ure got Sirius’ second goal in their 2-0 win over Hammarby last night, making two in two in the league.
Ure struggled to find his feet in the Rangers first team, candidly sharing his own self-assessment from his time at Ibrox.
He took a risk to leave Rangers and find his feet in Europe, a plan that seems to have paid off in abundance.
The striker signed with Belgian club Anderlecht, joining their reserve team RSCA Futures, playing in the Challenger Pro League in 2023.
On 13 March 2025, Ure signed with Swedish Allsvenskan club Sirius on a contract until the end of 2029.
Is he the one that got away for Rangers fans?

Robbie Ure’s blistering start
After a solid debut year in 2025 (where he notched 11 goals), Ure has exploded out of the blocks in the new campaign with IK Sirius.
The 22-year-old has only failed to score in one game this season, but Sirius are still unbeaten.
Ure has netted five goals in five matches in the Svenska Cupen, grabbing two assists as well.
His best game of the season came against Helsingborg, netting two goals in a 4-1 victory.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, he’s kicked off the league campaign with goals against Degerfors and Hammarby.
So far, he’s netted seven goals in seven games and seems to be unstoppable.
Rumours suggest that bigger clubs like Red Bull Salzburg are circling, with bids expected to reach the €2.5m–€3m range.
His Rangers career
He made his Rangers debut on 30 August 2022, starting in a League Cup match against Queen of the South.
It was an incredible start, netting his first professional goal ten minutes into the game.
Ure had to wait almost three months for his next senior appearance.
He made a substitute appearance in a Scottish Premiership match away to St Mirren on 12 November 2022.
He made two Premiership appearances before rejecting a contract extension in 2023.
Why did it not work out at Ibrox?
At 18 and 19, Ure was playing for Rangers B in the Lowland League.
There was a massive gulf between the fifth tier and the Rangers’ first team, so he could never really match the level.
In an interview, Ure admitted, “I knew in myself that I wasn’t good enough at that time to play games for Rangers, and I knew that I had to develop elsewhere.”
The pressure to win every single game means managers are rarely brave enough to give a teenage striker the 10–15 starts.
The club continued to spend money on foreign strikers like Cyril Dessers, blocking his pathway.

It wasn’t Rangers’ rejection of Robbie Ure; it was a brave decision to kickstart his career elsewhere.
While many academy players stay at Ibrox too long and see their careers stall, Ure bet on himself by moving to the continent.
His current form in Sweden is the ultimate proof that his decision to leave was the right one for his development.
Would a return to Ibrox ever be considered for the former academy star?
