- Frank McAvennie praised the influence of Nico Raskin under Danny Rohl, calling him a midfield controller and irritant.
- Josh Windass highlighted his Championship form, with 20 goal contributions this season for Wrexham.
- Reports link Andy Robertson with Rangers and Celtic, though no move to Scotland is currently expected.
Frank McAvennie has offered high praise for Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin, highlighting the Belgian’s growing influence since Danny Rohl’s appointment at Ibrox.
Raskin has been in excellent form under the German manager, becoming a key figure in Rangers push towards the Scottish Premiership title.
Across 48 appearances under Rohl and his predecessor Russell Martin in all competitions, he has contributed six goals and nine assists.
The former Celtic striker went as far as naming the 25-year-old as the Rangers player he would most like to see at Celtic.
A compliment that underlines the level of respect Raskin is now commanding.
McAvennie said to the National: “Nico Raskin is solid. He keeps the ball. A bit like Callum (McGregor) used to do.
“He gets himself forward, but he always seems to be there. I thought he controlled the game against Falkirk.
“We need somebody like that in our team, he’s a bit like Scott Brown.
“He annoys people. Really annoys opposing teams, players, and the supporters.”
Josh Windass backs himself
Former Rangers playmaker Josh Windass has given himself a pat on the back after excellent form in the English Championship.
“More goals than any other attacking midfielder in the last two seasons in this division,” he said.
“Proud of my consistency and there’s a lot more to come that’s for sure.”
Windass has three goals in Wrexham’s last four matches as the Welsh side chase a playoff position in England’s second tier.
He now has 20 goal contributions across his 43 appearances this campaign.
This is added to 19 across 47 games for former club Sheffield Wednesday last year.
Windass was linked with a return to Ibrox in January to reunite with former Owls’ boss Rohl.
Rangers not interested in Andy Robertson
Reports suggest Rangers and Celtic are both monitoring the situation of Scotland captain Andy Robertson, with the 92-cap left-back potentially available on a free transfer.
Tottenham and AC Milan are also said to be tracking the Liverpool defender as interest builds ahead of the summer window.
The speculation comes as both Glasgow clubs look to strengthen the left side of their squads.
Rangers are set to lose loanee Jayden Meghoma and assessing options to reinforce that area of the pitch.
However, there is no suggestion at this stage that Robertson has shown any inclination towards a move to Rangers.
The Scotland captain is still focused on his current situation and wider options expected to emerge closer to the summer.
If he is to move to Glasgow, it will be to the Hoops, who he is a boyhood supporter of.
Rangers previously turned down the chance to sign the Champions League winner in 2013.
However, then manager Ally McCoist opting for the experienced signing of Steven Smith, rather than the at-the-time unproven Queen’s Park teenager.
