Warning to Leicester fans with former Gers boss favourite to take charge

  • Leicester City were relegated from the Championship earlier this week
  • It could get a whole lot worse if they hire one former Rangers boss
  • The Foxes need a manager who will save them from free fall

It could get a lot worse for Leicester City fans after their relegation from the Championship this week.

Ten years after winning the Premier League, Leicester suffered a major blow following their relegation from the EFL Championship.

Gary Rowett’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season after he took charge in midseason from Marti Cifuentes.

Leicester was deducted six points for financial regularities, and their fate was sealed with a 2-2 draw against Hull City.

However, things could get much worse for Leicester fans, with disgraced former Rangers boss Russell Martin favourite to take charge.

Per TalkSport Bet, they have Martin at 5/1 favourite, with Ralph Hasenhuttl (8/1) and Michael Skubala (10/1) just behind.

If his last job at Rangers is anything to go by, Leicester could be in even more trouble.

A disaster job at Rangers

Martin lasted only 123 days at Rangers and was sacked with the club in eighth position and 11 points behind Hearts.

Draws became a regular fixture and he only secured one victory in the league.

They beat Livingston thanks to a last gasp winner from Max Aarons.

He oversaw one of Rangers’ worst ever European results in a 9-1 defeat over two legs by Club Brugge in Champions League qualifying.

Rangers found themselves in the Europa League, which started with two defeats against Genk and Sturm Graz.

In his final game, the Gers drew 1-1 with Falkirk and Martin had to be escorted by security away from the stadium.

In protest, Rangers fans blocked the team bus from leaving Falkirk Stadium.

Martin won five of his 17 games as manager, making him the worst-ranked Gers boss in history.

He was also the shortest-reigning Gers boss.

Martin was stubborn in his approach at Rangers, failing to recognise his tactics were failing and continuing to play the same way.

Success in England

Despite his failure at Rangers, Martin has proved his style of play has been successful in the EFL.

He led Southampton on a 25-game unbeaten streak to help them get promoted to the Premier League through the playoffs.

He also had successful spells at MK Dons and Swansea City, showcasing his ability to get his style of play to a group of players.

Yes, Martin has had success in the EFL, which may give some Leicester fans hope he can turn it around.

However, Martin is a coach who will never change his ways despite negative results and performances.

Leicester is a team in free fall, and a more pragmatic coach would suit their needs to steady the ship.

Martin could save Leicester City, but if his style doesn’t resonate with the players, it could get a lot worse for the Foxes.

What do you think about Martin potentially taking charge of Leicester City?
