- Leon King wins four awards after standout loan spell with Ayr United.
- Regular game time boosts development as Rangers exit looms this summer.
- Permanent Ayr move possible after impressive Championship campaign.
Rangers loanee Leon King collected a full house of awards at Ayr United’s Player of the Year event last night.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Honest Men from the Ibrox club earlier this season won a total of four awards over the evening.
This includes two player of the year and two young player of the year wins.
Across the Championship campaign King has appeared 26 times, scoring twice and helping the Ayrshire club keep seven clean sheets.
Does Leon King have a Rangers future?
His contract at Rangers is up in the summer.
Barring a miraculous change-of-heart from the Ibrox hierarchy, it will not be extended.
King is clearly well liked and thought-of at Somerset Park.
A permanent move there in the summer could be on the cards.
That had looked less likely earlier this season when former Celtic captain Scott Brown was sacked from his role as Ayr manager.
King had praised Brown’s influence on him earlier this campaign.
He said: “I’m loving it here because I’m playing every single minute and the gaffer is showing real faith in me.
“I would like to stay here and continue playing if I can and then kick on from there and see where it takes me.”
While Brown also praised his former Old Firm rival.
“He’s a humble lad who’s relishing the chance of stepping down a level and playing games,” he explained.
“He’s got that hunger to play football and that’s what you want.”

All told, King’s loan spell has done exactly what he needed it to, give him regular football, responsibility, and recognition.
Whether it leads to a permanent stay at Ayr or a fresh start elsewhere, he leaves this chapter having firmly re-established his value and reminded suitors of his potential that seen him linked with the likes of Manchester United and City when he first broke onto the scene at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard.
