- Motherwell manager was speaking ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Ibrox
- The Steelmen have frustrated Rangers this season with two draws
- Askou’s praise highlights Rangers improvement since last meeting
Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has praised Rangers ahead of his team’s visit to Ibrox this weekend.
The Dane sends his team to Ibrox in the split opener with the Steelmen winless in their last five league matches.
Danny Rohl’s men won the last match at Ibrox by a single goal in December while both club’s most recent meeting at Fir Park ended in a 1-1 draw.
That highlights how frustrating Askou’s charges have been to Rangers this season and that they have the players to ensure a tough outing for the Gers.
Askou praises Rangers for handling title race pressure
The Motherwell manager previewed Sunday’s clash by commenting on Rangers with the momentum behind Rohl’s men as they sit a point behind leaders Hearts.
He said: “If you look at their results, they have been able to deal extremely well with that pressure.
“Now they are in a much better position than they were last time we played them.
“I would rather think that they have a bigger feeling of momentum and being on top than they feel that extreme pressure.”
What these comments show is that as much as Askou will be wanting to make it as difficult an afternoon for Rangers as he can, he has noticed their recent form.
The Dane will also be aware that the Gers are in a different position than they were two months ago.
The late loss of three points in North Lanarkshire back in February meant Rangers were five behind Hearts and only a point above Celtic, who had a game in hand.
Compare that to now, where they are a point adrift of the summit and Celtic are two points behind.
Rangers are in a much stronger position that the last time they faced Askou’s side and the Motherwell boss is conscious of that.

Rangers are catching people’s attention.
The Motherwell manager will not be the only top-six boss in the Scottish Premiership who will be having an eye on how the Gers fare over the next few weeks.
As Askou alluded to, all the momentum is at Ibrox.
Rangers are seemingly peaking at the right time and everyone is taking notice.
