- Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart speak out on Findlay Curtis
- Curtis has impressed on loan at Neil McCann’s Kilmarnock
- Danny Rohl is facing more calls to make him a Rangers regular next season
Alan Hutton and Michael Stewart have commented on Findlay Curtis with the 19-year-old’s loan spell at Kilmarnock coming to a close.
Curtis has impressed for the Rugby Park club and scored a goal in their weekend clash against Dundee United.
The calls are growing louder for Curtis to be given a place in Danny Rohl’s squad next season especially since the Gers’ title race has collapsed.
Hutton and Stewart believe Curtis is key to solving huge problem at Rangers
Hutton said: “The big thing for him now is to finish the season well and go back to Rangers with a view of getting in the team.
“Rangers are missing a core of Scottish players and that is a big problem at this moment in time.”
Stewart built on those comments by stating: “I think Findlay Curtis speaks to a wider issue at Rangers.
“There is a nuanced debate about the lack of opportunities given to young players at Rangers.”
When you look at the current Rangers squad and compare to the teams from the past there is one key difference, a lack of Scottish players.
It could be argued that one reason that some non-domestic players struggle to make their mark at Ibrox is because they do not fully understand the nature of football in Scotland.
That is a something that Curtis, who now has regular minutes at Premiership football will understand and that will give him an extra edge over any non-Scottish players who arrive at Rangers this summer.
Curtis’ exploits for Kilmarnock a classic story of ‘what if’ for Rangers
The teenager has more than impressed at the Rugby Park club since he joined Neil McCann’s men in January.
Therefore, Stewart raises the question of whether Curtis should have been a key player for Rangers in the second half of the season.
He said: “I do not think there is any doubt that he could have been having an impact at Rangers this season.”
Danny Rohl sent Curtis on loan to aid his development as a young player and with his exploits for Kilmarnock, it seems to have been the right call.
However, Rangers are out the title race and have suffered consecutive defeats for the first time since 2018.
Rangers’ season will now be full of ‘what ifs’ and Findlay Curtis is one of them.

Danny Rohl, when he reflects on this season and assesses what went wrong during the title charge may well come to the conclusion that not retaining Findlay Curtis was one of them.
However, Rohl has the chance to rectify that.
And that is by making Curtis a regular player for Rangers next season.
