Sankhoun Diawara Being Monitored By Rangers To Increase Centre-Back Options

Rangers are reportedly monitoring Troyes defender Sankhoun Diawara as Derek McInnes continues to reshape his Ibrox squad.

Another name, another story to monitor.

According to Foot Mercato, the 20-year-old centre-back is being watched closely, with FC Basel also moving in the same market. The Swiss club are said to be very keen to land the player.

Diawara is said to have one year left on his Troyes contract and is not in a hurry to sign extended terms.

McInnes Faces Another Rangers Transfer Race

Diawara’s profile explains the interest.

He is left-footed, 1.88m, and became a regular during Troyes’ Ligue 2 title campaign, making 14 league appearances as the French side secured promotion.

For Rangers, that makes him a development signing for the long-term, although he would be expected to contribute to the first-team squad right away.

McInnes has already overseen arrivals including Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil, but he has also warned that further business may take time.

Speaking through Rangers’ official channels, the manager stressed that good players usually attract more than one club.

Sankhoun Diawara to add to Rangers defensive options?

Sankhoun Diawara would not arrive as the finished article, but his profile is an interesting one.

The key question is whether McInnes wants another young defender to grow inside the rebuild, or whether the next centre-back has to be a plug-in starter from day one.

Rangers now have Ben Godfrey, who will presumably be a first-pick alongside Manny Fernandez

John Souttar is the other current senior option, with Clinton Nsiala expected to move on, following the loan exits of Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga.

Derek McInnes still needs defensive options and more new faces are expected.
