Rangers have been told how much it will cost to land Jens Hjerto-Dahl this summer, amid significant interest in the player from Top-Five leagues.
As reported by the Rangers Review on Thursday, Tromso are holding out for £8.5 million to part ways with their prized asset.
Ibrox chiefs will need to move quickly if a deal is to be done, with unnamed clubs in England and Germany said to be very keen on the player.
One English Championship club is said to have lodged a bid with Tromso, which was worth more than the estimated £5.5m offered by Rangers. That bid was quickly rejected.
Jens Hjerto-Dahl ultimatum set to unfold
Jens Hjerto Dahl is a player in demand.
At 20, he is a highly-rated midfielder, capable of playing as a 6 or an 8.
The Norway U21 international is ready here and now for the first team at Rangers, but he would also be a long-term asset who can improve and become more valuable for a future sale.
With that in mind, it’s now or never for a potential move to Glasgow.
He will be too expensive next time around.
End of the road for Lewis Ferguson bid?
With the £8.5m fee being suggested, on top of a potential deal for Partizan Belgrade’s Vanja Dragojevic – with negotiations said to be ongoing – something has to give.
That would surely be the end of the pursuit for Lewis Ferguson?
Signing the Scotland international would be a major coup but it would be an expensive signing with risk – as much as every new signing carries an element of the unknown.
There’s an argument that signing Hjerto-Dahl and Dragojevic for a combined outlay of less than Ferguson’s valuation makes more sense.
If that theory is to be tested, Rangers need to move quickly.
The club has been tracking the midfielder powerhouse for more than a year, and there is an opportunity to complete a deal with Tromso.
Jens Hjerto-Dahl also indicated recently he would prefer a move to Ibrox ahead of interest from Besiktas.
Get it done.
This is a signing that would capture the imagination and give the supporters a player to believe in.
He would also be a key arrival for Derek McInnes, with responsibility and expectation to be met.
With the Rangers squad set to travel to Spain this weekend for the pre-season training camp, it appears that we aren’t too far away from further business being completed.
On Rangers, on!
