Ross McCausland has been the subject of an enquiry from Liga Portugal side Casa Pia.
The Lisbon-based club are said to have enquired with Rangers about the terms of a permanent deal, according to Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old Northern Ireland international has one year remaining on his existing Ibrox deal, but he’s not likely to have a future at the club under Derek McInnes.
McCausland spent last year on loan at Aris Limassol, playing alongside Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun, but it would be in his best interests to secure a fresh start with a permanent deal going into the new season.
His next move will depend on how much Rangers want to sanction a sale, but a compromise could be made if another club is effectively picking up the bulk of his current salary.
Ross McCausland set for Ibrox exit
Ross McCausland broke into the Rangers team prior to the arrival of Phillipe Clement, but he grabbed the opportunity with both hands as the Belgian coach introduced him into the first-team squad in the 2023/24 season.
Due to a lack of options on the right wing, he was utilised by interim boss Steven Davis. in place of the injured Zak Lovelace, during a 3-0 win at St. Mirren in October 2023.
That was soon after the departure of Michael Beale, but under Clement, McCausland flourished.
Over the next few weeks, he would go on to regularly feature for the first team, score in a Europa League tie against Aris Limassol and make his full international debut for Northern Ireland.
To date, Ross McCausland has been capped five times for his country.
The player should have options in Scotland and England, but most intriguingly, he has potential suitors on the continent.
In recent weeks, he was the subject of interest from Switzerland, but now it is Portugal’s Casa Pia who are said to be keen on the winger.
Playing football for a living in Lisbon sounds like a fantastic opportunity, even if it is in the shadows of the more illustrious Benfica and Sporting.
Ross McCausland needs to kick-start his career and international prospects so for those reasons, you can expect a departure from Ibrox in this window.
