Nedim Bajrami is in line for a surprise move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Taawoun said to be keen on the Albanian international attacker.
As reported by Robert Grieve for the Scottish Sun, dialogue continues over a £2.5 million deal for the 27-year-old.
Al-Taawoun has expressed interest in a loan-to-buy package for the player, but Rangers are holding firm on their position to ensure a permanent sale and a suitable fee.
The club’s position is strengthened as other clubs are in the running for Bajrami, including his former club, Sassuolo.
The Serie A side also wanted an initial loan arrangement, but the message from Ibrox is clear.
Saudi, Serie A interest in Nedim Bajrami
It was suggested that a £2.1 million sale was close, to take the attacker back to the Emilia-Romagna region, with further interest from other clubs in Serie A and Serie B
However, the contact from Saudi Arabia is a game changer, with a generous wage within their means.
£2.5m would be an acceptable return, even though it still represents a loss of around £1 million, after the fee paid for Bajrami in 2024.
From a Rangers perspective, the current direction of travel is encouraging.
It’s clear that a few key additions are required to enhance and improve the team and overall squad, but it’s just as important that player sales are maximised.
Rangers transfer news – the turnover continues
Bajrami was on the fringes last season, and that was set to continue.
He has reached the end of the road at Rangers and the club is correct to push for a permanent exit. In truth, he was another unsuccessful purchase, although he has contributed far more than others over the last two years.
Nedim Bajrami is on the way out, as is John Souttar and Ross McCausland.
They will follow Oliver Antman out the door after the Finland international secured a move to Anderlecht on Wednesday.
That one moved quickly, with the Belgian side stealing a march on Twente after the Dutch side were considering a move for the winger.
On the eve of the new Premiership season, Derek McInnes’ squad rebuild is gathering pace and the turnover is set to continue.
Olwethu Makhanya is set to be confirmed imminently, with Rangers also working to recruit a winger ahead of Friday’s visit to Tannadice.
