“One step away” – Latest Rangers player exit must trigger further spending

Nedim Bajrami is said to be on the brink of securing a move to Al Taawoun in Saudi Arabia, with Rangers set to bank around £2.5 million.

With the Albanian international becoming the latest to head for the exit at Ibrox, his departure must be the trigger for further essential spending to bolster Derek McInnes’ team.

While eight signings have been made to date, some of these have been squad signings and contributions to a new leadership group within the dressing room.

As we saw at Tannadice on Friday, and as described by Derek McInnes, this Rangers team urgently requires quality, ready to play now.

Nedim Bajrami close to €3 million Saudi switch

Prominent Italian journalist Nicola Schira posted on X on Monday morning, stating that Bajrami “is one step away to join Al Taawoun from Rangers for €3m.

The 27-year-old is said to have penned a three-year-deal to play in the SPL until 2029.

That is likely to include a significant salary for the Swiss-born player.

Nedim Bajrami has contributed to Rangers more than some others over the last couple of years, but he has to go down as another unsuccessful transfer.

He was never a first-choice player, in a defined role, and would have been on the fringes again this season.

Roughly £2.5 million for a permanent sale is good business, but those proceeds must go back out the door, immediately.

Rangers need to get busy

It is known that Rangers want to be involved in the transfer market through to the end of the window.

There are players of quality that may not be available until the latter stages, but that approach has to be balanced with the responsibility for what happens now.

Derek McInnes needs help. Rangers have half a team at present and the situation of limping into a Europa League qualifier with a defensive crisis is unacceptable.

We all knew the numbers at the end of last season, and that hasn’t been rectified yet.

Ben Godfrey is a serious doubt and Olwethu Makhanya is facing a Visa sweat. Ross McCrorie is also carrying a knock which leaves the back line down to the bare bones. It’s ridiculous.

Then there is the obvious situation, middle to front.

Three wingers are required, but the bare minimum is two. Until that happens, Rangers are seriously underprepared and that is playing with fire against a decent side in Jagiellonia Bialystok that risks Europa League progression.
