A new Colombian at Ibrox? Winger Camilo Mena under consideration – Rangers transfer latest

Rangers are said to be considering a bid for Colombian winger Camilo Mena, currently plying his trade in Poland with Lechia Gdansk.

The 23-year-old had a fine season in the Ekstraklasa with five goals and ten assists, but collectively, it was one to forget for Lechia as they finished 16th and fell to relegation.

St. Etienne fan site Peuple Vert has detailed that the Ligue 2 side are preparing to make a move for Camilo Mena, but face competition from Rangers and Palmeiras.

Mena is right-footed and plays on the right flank, so that it is an interesting one to consider, given that Derek McInnes prefers inverted wide men.

How much would Camilo Mena cost?

Camilo Mena has a €4 million value on Transfermarkt, but that isn’t always an accurate marker.

Given that Lechia Gdansk have been relegated to the second tier, they will be vulnerable to a sale and having to accept less for one of their key assets.

It appears unlikely that Rangers would seek to loan this type of signing, but we await further clarity on the situation and if an official approach in made.

After the Alfredo Morelos era, the Rangers supporters would love another Colombian hero to get behind, as long as he could make the grade at Ibrox.

In recent seasons, Oscar Cortes arrived in Glasgow but he is now on his second loan spell away from the club, having failed to find his groove as a result of poor form and injuries.

It is doubtful if he will be seen again in a Rangers shirt.

Rangers need wingers now

The recent departure of Oliver Antman has exacerbated Rangers’ lack of options out wide.

The issue was very clear in the opening day 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Friday, and it must be addressed, as a matter of urgency.

Apart from Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis, all that Rangers have is square pegs in round holes, and that’s what the likes of Mo Diomande are in that position.

Thelo Aasgaard was influential playng off the left on Friday night, but it’s doubtful if he’s going to be a regular in that role. He’s not a winger, that’s for sure.
