Rangers have re-signed highly-rated 17-year-old goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire on a new three-year contract extension.
The re-signing is important for the club as McGuire’s previous deal, his first professional contract, was due to expire in summer 2027.
That left him in the final year and vulnerable to a free or low-compensation exit, so thankfully that situation has been averted.
Several Premier League clubs, including Everton, Arsenal and Brighton have tracked McGuire for years.
Securing him long-term protects a top academy asset, underlines the pathway from the youth setup to the first team, and keeps a potential future No. 1 at Ibrox rather than losing him for minimal return.
First team exposure for Rydnn McGuire
Rydnn McGuire has already been around the senior group for well over a year, including regular first-team training, matchday squads (he was on the bench for the Europa League quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao in March 2025), and involvement in training camps like Danny Rohl’s Spain trip ahead of the split last season.
With senior goalkeeper options evolving, the new contract for McGuire strengthens the depth chart and succession planning while he continues developing under the watchful eye of Allan McGregor.
Ivor Pandur and Liam Kelly are the established first-team goalkeepers, with Mason Munn and Rydnn McGuire completing the keeper stable.
What Derek McInnes said about McGuire
“Rydnn is a talented young player who has worked hard to reach this point, and this new deal is recognition of the progress he has made, said the manager in praise of the young player.
“From day one, he has impressed me no end, and he’s a young man with a big future, if he continues to work hard at his game.
“As a club, we place huge importance on creating a clear pathway from the Academy into the first-team, and it’s vital that our young players can see opportunities to earn their place.
“The challenge for Rydnn now is to continue developing, and he will be both supported and challenged every step of the way by Allan McGregor and our fantastic goalkeeping department.”
McGuire himself described it as “a proud moment to commit my future to Rangers,” expressing gratitude to the academy staff and excitement about creating special moments for the club.
