Rangers appear to have protected their position with the incoming arrival of Aston Villa full-back Kosta Nedeljkovic.
As detailed last night, a loan with an obligation to buy has been agreed, which would see Rangers pay Aston Villa around £4 million for the Serbian international.
That obligation is based on the number of games that Nedeljkovic plays for Rangers this season, which is an incentive for the player to find form and consistency, knowing that it will secure his future.
It also represents an insurance policy for Rangers should injury issues reoccur with the 20-year-old.
Kosta Nedeljkovic needs to prove fitness to display his quality
Kosta Nedeljkovic is highly rated and featured across pre-season for Unai Emery’s team.
However, he made just a handful of appearances last season, while on loan at RB Leipzig, having also spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign in eastern Germany.
He needs to play, he wants to play, but Nedeljkovic needs to prove he is fully fit.
This pacey, attacking full-back has a high ceiling to play in a top European league but that will only happen if he proves his worth.
Some Villa fans have expressed surprise at the terms of the deal, but it will be interesting to see if they have any potential buy back, or share of a future sale.
The full Serbian international will provide a different option for Derek McInnes and Rangers at right-back, but the concern is if he can nail down the spot, and avoid another prolonged absence.
Last season, a lesser knee complaint and a back problem seriously disrupted his time on the pitch, but Rangers should be getting a hungry, determined player in Kosta Nedeljkovic.
