Sam Lammers targeted for return to the big time with PSV

PSV Eindhoven are working on a deal to re-sign Sam Lammers, six years after he left the club to join Atalanta on a permanent deal.

The striker has rebuilt his standing and reputation in his native Netherlands, after a very disappointing spell at Rangers.

Lammers was brought to the club by Michael Beale in the summer of 2023, but a slow start was compounded by a poor run of form and the player never recovered in the pressure cooker that is Ibrox.

After just six months, he moved home to join Utrecht in a loan deal to the end of the 2023-24 season, and later that year he signed for Twente Enschede on a three-year deal.

Sam Lammers targeted for return to former club

PSV have identified their former youth player as the right candidate to bolster their attack for the upcoming season, with Ricardo Pepe and Alassane Plea currently at the disposal of coach Peter Bosz.

A previous report by Rik Elfrink detailed that PSV viewed Lammers as “an additional option” but the question was if he could be prised away from Twente.

Their approach has taken a step forward.

It just goes to show how football – and a player’s fortunes – can change in a relatively short period of time.
