Danny Rohl wants to bring Djedi Gassama to RB Salzburg, according to a report from Santi Aouna.
The reported transfer interest from Austria follows the £6 million bid from Monza in Italy’s Serie A, which was rejected last week.
Other clubs, including Monaco and Parma are said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
Djeidi Gassama delivered an impressive performance as Rangers secured a crucial 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday.
If it was ‘shop window’ display, it’s very likely that further bids will land before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Should Rangers sell or keep Gassama?
Ok, every player has their price, but should Rangers be looking to move on Gassama this week?
Firstly, if he is to leave, the club will be required to pull the trigger on an effective replacement, given how important the Mauritania international is to the squad.
There’s no doubt that Gassama is a talented player, but his game is plagued by inconsistency and a lack of end product.
Against Aberdeen, it was the former Sheffield Wednesday man’s close control and movement in the hosts’ box that won the penalty, dispatched by Lawrence Shankland.
It would be great to see more of that, but it could also be the last of Gassama in a Rangers shirt if a suitable bid lands.
Rangers won’t be in a hurry to lose the player, but money will talk, especially if it could mean a return to France, or a switch to Italy.
Gassama will be very familiar to Danny Rohl, and vice versa, given that they have worked together in Sheffield and Glasgow.
This is one to watch over the coming days as the last of the Rangers transfer news unfolds.
Further new arrivals are expected, but this week there should be more player sales, with the squad and wage bill needing to be reduced.
