Kris Boyd calls on Rangers to clear the decks by Thursday

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has urged his old club to sell as many as seven players before the current transfer window shuts on Thursday.

Boyd argues that the Rangers squad has become excessively large, containing more than 30 players, and that this situation cannot continue.

He said: “They need to get five, six, seven out at least before the window closes.”

The ex-striker also pointed to a shortage of creativity in the side and stressed that the priority should not be limited to signing a new forward.

Rangers have already signed 12 new players this summer under Derek McInnes as the manager works to build a squad able to challenge in the Scottish Premiership.

With the window nearing its end, the club still has further transfers to complete.

Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy is reportedly close to completing a deal worth almost £10 million, with the move intended to cover for the injured Youssef Chermiti.

Boyd added, “There are other areas of the team that need strengthening other than the forward areas.

“They’re still shy of someone who can connect the midfield and be creative.”

As part of this discussion, Boyd also praised Nicolas Raskin highly.

He said: “He’s your best midfielder by a country mile,” as he questioned why Raskin isn’t in the squad, given Derek McInnes‘ briefing that no bids have been received.
