Derek McInnes won’t be in the dugout for Rangers’ important Premiership games this week against Falkirk and Motherwell.
This relates to his punishment from the Scottish FA after his “disgusting” remarks while manager of Hearts, in relation to Celtic’s penalty at Fir Park last season.
The initial sanction was a four-game suspension with three of those to be served immediately.
After Rangers appealed the ban for their manager, the SFA has partially upheld the complaint, with a two-game suspension to be served immediately and the other two games suspended until the end of the season.
The Derek McInnes update will be frustrating for the manager and Rangers, coming just after the crucial win against Aberdeen on Sunday.
He will be keen to move on from the incident last season – and resulting ban – but now he will be forced to watch on at the Falkirk Stadium and Ibrox, respectively, as his team hunt down maximum points.
As it stands, Paul Sheerin or Alan Archibald will need to take the lead from the touchline in those games.
Derek McInnes will return to his regular position for the home league game against St. Mirren on Wednesday, September 9 and the back-to-back Celtic games the week after.
More to follow.
