Derek McInnes throws massive curveball into Rangers fans’ transfer deadline expectations

Derek McInnes

Derek McInnes has intimated that Rangers will only sign one more player, throwing a massive curveball into the fans’ expectations for the remainder of the transfer window.

Kevin Kelsy is the man in the frame to be the 13th arrival over the summer period, yet the squad looks thin in a couple of areas.

Recent approaches for Amario Cozier-Duberry appear to be doomed, with the Brighton man close to a Championship loan, while Rangers have been linked to Stuttgart’s Badredine Bouanani.

That would suggest the club are still targeting a right-winger.

However, in conversation with Sky Sports, Derek McInnes has dampened expectations and effectively thrown a grenade into hopes for what could follow.

There has to be a sense of realism, with what has been spent so far and the consequences of two failed European qualification attempts against mediocre opposition.

Some fans just want an endless stream of signings regardless of facts, but that’s not going to happen.

Is Derek McInnes telling it as it is, or is he buying time for a loan deal or two to be completed after England’s transfer window closes late on Tuesday?

We will soon find out.

Just one more signing expected – Derek McInnes

Derek McInnes told Sky Sports:

“We’re still working hard to get one in at the minute. We’re getting closer on that one, but we believe it’s only going to be the one in.

“On players out, there’s been a few conversations had.

“There may well be things develop over the next 24-48 hours on that front. But again, these things are natural.

“I think most clubs will be seeing and trying to do the last couple of days’ business, trying to get a couple of things in that they need. So we’re no different to that.

“The club’s done a lot of business early on. Every manager doesn’t always get exactly what they want.

“But you’ve got to be grateful at times for what you do get.”
