Derek McInnes has clarified the situation around Nico Raskin, with the Belgian international set to stay at Rangers until January at least.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the 2-1 win over Falkirk, McInnes stopped short of guaranteeing that Raskin would be at Ibrox when the window closes “as I’m not in charge of the deals” but he did confirm why the proposed transfer to Besiktas broke down.
All day long on Wednesday, the news was spreading of the Istanbul giants making their move.
The reported ‘loan with option’ deal was met with disdain by the Rangers supporters. Rightly so.
Such a deal makes no sense, or carries no incentive for Rangers.
Without adequately replacing Nico Raskin, you would be weakening an already thin squad by letting him leave.
Derek McInnes said that the Besiktas move is off the table, as there was “no deal that suits the club or Nico”.
The Belgian is now expected to remain at Ibrox for the coming months, but his value will drop unless there is an exceptional period of form between now and winter.
More to follow.
