Rangers lost captain Lawrence Shankland to a concerning hamstring injury during their 1-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Motherwell at Ibrox Stadium.
The striker limped off after just four minutes of action. The setback is a major blow for the forward, who recently fronted up as captain to lead the line.
Manager Derek McInnes noted the issue is similar to one that sidelined him for three months last year.
“But he says it feels similar to in the same area, so we’ll get him scanned on Monday,” McInnes said.
McInnes Relies On Deep Squad
Ryan Naderi replaced the injured skipper and scored the winning goal minutes after his introduction.
New signing Kevin Kelsy also made his debut from the bench as the hosts chased a second goal.
McInnes, who previously confronted a European crisis, was relieved to lean on his deep attacking reserves.
“Getting Kevin was such a good bit of business, the club deserve a lot of credit for that,” McInnes confirmed.
The manager noted he has strong alternatives available to navigate this vital spell.
“So having Ryan, Kevin, Bojan, Kim Min-su, who can play central, we’ve still got some decent options there,” he added.
Rangers must now adapt their forward line as they await the scan results ahead of their next league fixture.
