Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez has praised his growing defensive bond with Olwethu Makhanya following a narrow victory over Motherwell, despite suffering a late injury.
The centre-back helped secure another clean sheet during the 1-0 Scottish Premiership win at Ibrox Stadium. Ryan Naderi scored the decisive goal early in the first half after robbing the Motherwell goalkeeper.
Derek McInnes was forced into late defensive reshuffling in the final stages, introducing Conor Godfrey when Fernandez withdrew due to an injury.
Growing Partnership In Central Defence
Before his substitution, the defender highlighted the squad togetherness and his strengthening connection with summer arrival Olwethu Makhanya.
“We are growing as a partnership; we are keeping clean sheets, but there is more to come,” he stated.
The Light Blues have now secured three consecutive victories. Fernandez believes the squad can use this momentum as they prepare for a midweek clash against St Mirren.
“We know we have three wins in a row and two clean sheets in those matches, and we are going into the next few games with confidence,” he added.

Late in the match, McInnes also introduced Venezuelan forward Kevin Kelsy, granting the striker more minutes after the club agreed a major transfer late in the window.
The manager must now await clarity on the defensive injury situation before St Mirren arrive in Glasgow for their next fixture.
