Bailey Rice injury setback stalls Rangers progression plan at Kilmarnock

Rangers teenager Bailey Rice was forced off with an apparent physical issue during Kilmarnock’s 1-0 Scottish Premiership victory over Hibernian at Easter Road.

The 19-year-old midfielder earned a rare start under Neil McCann on Tuesday evening but endured a frustrating performance before leaving the pitch shortly after the hour mark. Mark O’Hara replaced the loanee to see out a crucial domestic triumph secured by a first-half George Stanger finish.

Disrupting Ibrox Succession Plans

Rangers manager Derek McInnes is closely monitoring the temporary move as part of his future midfield succession strategy. This latest obstacle threatens to stall the teenager’s development momentum, compounding fitness problems he experienced last season.

Operating in a central double pivot against David Gray’s side, the prospect managed just 30 touches and 15 completed passes before his premature exit. He failed to win a single ground duel, while only one of his four attempted crosses found its intended target.

His most notable contribution was a powerful long-range strike pushed away by the goalkeeper.

Outlining the importance of this loan arrangement during the summer, McCann challenged the midfielder to establish himself. Speaking to Kilmarnock FC, the manager said: “He’s got so much potential, but sooner or later, potential needs to be realised, and he’s got a chance here with us.”

Medical staff must now assess the exact severity of the problem ahead of upcoming fixtures. Rangers next travel to face Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday 20 September.
