Rangers midfielder Kyle Glasgow has earned a fast-track selection for the Scotland Under-21 squad following an impressive co-operation loan spell at League One side Alloa Athletic.
The 16-year-old now stands on the brink of surpassing Ben Gannon-Doak as the youngest goalscorer in the history of the national youth setup. If the Ibrox prospect scores in the upcoming fixture against Azerbaijan, he will claim the record at just 16 years and 222 days old.
Gannon-Doak previously established the milestone against Northern Ireland in September 2022 at 16 years and 315 days. A second opportunity awaits against Bulgaria on 6 October, where Glasgow would still shatter the threshold at 16 years and 228 days, validating his first Scotland Under-21 selection.
Tony Docherty Praises Rangers Loan
National team coach Tony Docherty has closely monitored the teenager’s senior transition, noting his two goals and one assist across seven matches. Speaking to The National, Docherty labelled the prospect a “really talented” boy.
“Kyle’s a really good example of how the co-operation loans have worked,” Docherty confirmed, adding that he had discussed the player’s development directly with Derek McInnes.
A successful international window will undoubtedly strengthen the midfielder’s case for senior minutes at Ibrox Stadium once the loan agreement concludes. McInnes will assess his squad integration ahead of a new era under his management, with the first team next travelling to face Celtic in the Premiership on Sunday.
