Rangers reach Europa League Group Stages

Rangers have become the first British team to progress through all four stages of the Europa League qualification stages to reach the group stages of the competition, as per The Guardian.

Nine-man Rangers drew 1-1 away at FC Ufa, which, added to the 1-0 Ibrox victory, helped Steven Gerrard’s men secure a 2-1 aggregate win in the Play-Off Round.

Ovie Ejaria put Rangers ahead before Dmitri Sysuev equalised for the Russian side, giving them a lifeline.

Two red cards to Alfredo Morelos and Jon Flanagan invited a second-half onslaught with Ufa gunning at Allan McGregor’s goal but ultimately not being successful.

Ufa did have the ball in the net very late on but it was disallowed due to a foul and it wouldn’t have been enough to see them through.

So Rangers defeated Shkupi, Osijek, Maribor and Ufa to reach the Group Stages of a European competition for the first time since 2010.
