Danny Rohl’s Rangers face St Mirren away from home to begin the road to nine cup finals, according to the manager.

The Gers come into the fixture off the back of three wins in nine and are desperate to make up ground on Hearts.

They sit six points behind the Edinburgh side, meaning a victory is the only valid conclusion on Sunday.

Meanwhile, St Mirren reel from manager Stephen Robinson’s abrupt move to Aberdeen.

The Buddies currently sit 10th in the Scottish Premiership, having picked up 24 points so far this season.

Despite their low league position, the Paisley outfit is the reigning League Cup champions and has reached the Scottish Cup semifinal.

Given these circumstances, both teams are desperate for a positive result to boost their hopes at opposite ends of the table.

Recent results

The Buddies head into the fixture with some much-needed confidence after beating Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup quarterfinal.

Their league performances have been miles off compared to their cup exploits.

St Mirren haven’t won a league game since February 3, beating 10-man Hearts 1-0 at home.

Since then, St Mirren have picked up one point in five league games, drawing 1-1 away at Livingston at the end of February.

They were thrashed 5-0 at home by Motherwell and then edged out 2-1 at Dundee United in their recent league outing.

As for Rangers, Rohl’s side comes into the game off the back of three games without a win and sitting third in the league.

The Gers haven’t won since February 15, when they beat table-toppers Hearts 4-2 at Ibrox.

For a team of Rangers’ calibre, four wins in 10 is nowhere near good enough, and it needs to change this weekend.

In their last league game, Rangers squandered a 2-0 halftime lead to draw 2-2 with Celtic.

Rangers’ predicted XI.

The head coach confirmed that Mohamed Diomande will be unavailable for the trip to the SMISA Stadium.

This means we could see the potential return of Connor Barron, Derek Cornelius, and Oliver Antman.

[4-2-3-1] Butland; Sterling, Djiga, Fernandez, Rommens; Raskin, Chukwuani; Gassama, Moore, Skov Olsen, Chermiti.

St Mirren predicted XI.

St Mirren head into the fixture without a full-time manager, with academy coach Craig McLeish taking over as interim.

On the pitch, Mikael Mandron, Marcus Fraser, and Malik Dijksteel are out, which are crucial blows at both ends of the pitch.

[3-5-2] George; King, Gogic, Freckleton; Richardson, O’Hara, Phillips, Baccus, John; Young, N’Lundulu
