- Nico Raskin has been playing tremendously under Danny Rohl this season.
- He recently earned another call-up for the Belgium national team
- Journalist Sacha Tavolieri gave his opinion on whether Raskin is overlooked by Belgium.
Nico Raskin has been one of the standout performers at Rangers since Danny Rohl entered the building, but does remaining in Scotland hinder his Belgium prospects?
His performance comes off the back of being selected for Belgium for their upcoming friendlies against the United States and Mexico.
The Belgium national team is full of international stars from the Premier League and further afield.
Raskin is a small fish when it comes to other quality in the Belgium squad and midfield.
He’s made nine appearances for the national team, proving to be a solid pick.
Prominent Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri gave his view on Raskin, and whether playing for Rangers is an obstacle for the player achieving further progress with the Red Devils.

Is Nico Raskin looked upon differently?
Tavolieri said, “For the previous national team coach, it was a problem because he was expecting he would join a top-five European league.”
“When Rudi Garcia arrived, something had changed against Ukraine.”
“He did something very good; he had a very good performance and helped the team to qualify.”
“Since that moment, Raskin has been very clutch, and Garcia has changed his mind about him.”
Raskin was the standout in Belgium’s 3-0 dominating display against Ukraine in March 2025.
Raskin operated in a midfield trio alongside Hans Vanaken and Kevin De Bruyne, providing the defensive stability and composure.
He completed 91% of his passes and won five duels in the match.
He received a standing ovation when he was subbed off in the 90th minute.
Despite his performance against Ukraine, Tavolieri admitted there are going to be some doubts about players in Scotland.
“It’s true, when you play for Rangers, and you have players coming from Aston Villa, Manchester City, and so on, there are some doubts.”
“Raskin is performing quite well, and he’s showing his level.”
“A terrific option”
The Belgian journalist gave his opinion on Raskin and believes he has all the attributes to play a key part in the future.
“For me, he is a terrific option, he’s a very good player with a big mentality and has that fighting spirit for the DNA of Belgium, which is quite rare.”
“We don’t have that many players who have that kind of team spirit, so that is very important.”
“He is a fighter who will give everything on the pitch and try his maximum to help his teammates.”
“Raskin is the type of guy who, if you ask him to play left back, he will do it because he loves Belgium.”
“His mentality is perfect, and we need those types of players in our starting 11 because he brings more team spirit.”

Raskin has been a player who has been overlooked in Belgium and with Rangers under Russell Martin.
However, his ability in the middle of the park is the reason why he’s adored by Rangers and Belgium fans alike.
For me, Raskin is the type of player everybody needs on their team, despite the difference in quality levels.
If he can consistently show his quality, it is only natural that he will be linked with a move to a strong league, and with it, further exposure for Belgium.
