Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven are set to launch a summer swoop for Rangers forward Youssef Chermiti.
Fenerbahce submitted a big-money offer in January, believed to be around £15m, which would’ve seen Rangers make a profit, but was rejected by Ibrox boss Danny Rohl and the transfer chiefs.
And PSV are now considering making their move in January, according to the report.
Rangers will look to offload fellow forward Bojan Miovski in the summer.
If Chermiti also exits this would leave Ryan Naderi as the club’s only recognised centre forward.
Defoe steps into management
Appointed earlier in the week, the 43-year-old made an immediate impact as his side raced into an early lead, only to fall two goals behind before staging a late comeback through Olly Sanderson and Kian Pennant.
Speaking after the match, Defoe reflected on a whirlwind introduction to management, stressing the importance of earning his way up the ladder despite his playing pedigree.
He praised the character shown by his players, particularly the impact of his substitutions and the hunger of young loanees.
He also acknowledged the challenge of stepping into a top job with minimal preparation.
Early signs suggest an energetic approach built on trust in youth and resilience.
These are foundations he will look to build on in the weeks ahead.
Gattuso departs Italy, with replacement set to return
The Azzurri’s defeat to Bosnia on penalties ensured his departure and Italy’s absence from a third consecutive World Cup.
“I’ve never cried after a match in my life,” he revealed. “I’m 29 years old, but I have tears in my eyes tonight.”
Gattuso thanked his squad despite their elimination following his announcement.
“With a heavy heart, having failed to achieve the goal we had set ourselves, I consider my time in charge of the national team to be over,” he said in a statement.
“The Azzurri shirt is the most precious asset in football, which is why it is right to facilitate future technical assessments with immediate effect.
“It has been an honour to lead the national team and to do so with a group of lads who have shown commitment and loyalty to the shirt.”
Former Italy boss Roberto Mancini is rumoured to be returning to his previous role immediately.
