  • Rangers are now Premiership favourites after beating Dundee United, with Hearts losing crucial points at Livingston.
  • Only six games remain, including key top-six clashes that will decide the title race.
  • Celtic remain in contention, but Rangers momentum gives them the edge heading into the final stretch.

With just six games remaining in the Premiership, the title race has taken a decisive turn.

For the first time this season, Rangers have emerged as the favourites to lift the trophy, a shift that has reshaped the perception of the run-in.

Heading into the final pre-split matchday, the top six comprises Hearts, Rangers, Celtic, Motherwell, Hibs, and Falkirk.

The weekend fixtures offered critical moments that could determine the direction of the league, with Celtic hosting St Mirren, Hearts taking on Motherwell at Tynecastle and Falkirk hosting Rangers on Sunday.

Rangers recent performances have propelled them to the forefront of the title race.

Rangers top Premiership data race

Their 4-2 victory over Dundee United not only reinforced their credentials but also improved their chances of finishing top, marking an eight percent increase in title probability.

This surge is underscored by the faltering of Hearts, who drew 2-2 at basement side Livingston, a result that cost them valuable points and reduced their chances by fourteen percent, despite returning them to the summit.

The significance of this outcome cannot be overstated; a team that had led the standings for much of the season now faces pressure to maintain consistency in the final stages.

Celtic remain firmly in contention, with a 2-1 win at Dundee generating an eight percent boost to their probability of finishing in the top two.

However, Rangers current momentum and Hearts slip have created a scenario in which Danny Rohl’s men are viewed as the most likely champions, a position they have not occupied until now this season.

What remains in the race

The post-split format of the Premiership ensures that every remaining fixture carries heightened importance.

With only six matches left, five against fellow top six sides, and six out of six for the Ibrox side, even minor slips could have major consequences for the final standings.

Rangers current form positions them as a formidable contender, while Hearts now confront a challenging schedule that demands massive mentality to reclaim lost ground.

Celtic, though still a credible threat, must navigate the remaining fixtures without further setbacks if they are to close the gap and mount a serious challenge for the title they have held for the past four seasons.

These developments underscore the unpredictability that have defined a unique season within the Scottish top flight.

The momentum is with Rangers, but with trips to Celtic Park and Tynecastle still to go, the margin for error is minimal, if not zero.

Rohl commented after Saturday’s 4-2 win over Dundee United, that if Rangers are perfect, they will be champions.

“We have to be on the front foot and if we win six games then we will have something at the end of the season,” he explained.

This, however, is also true for Hearts.

In what is the tightest Scottish run-in in living memory, Rangers know that nothing short of perfection will be enough to confirm their status as champions for the first time since 2021.

The data shows they are in the ascendancy, can they hold it amongst the unpredictability that is football?
