- Charlie Adam has given his realistic expectations on Youssef Chermiti
- Adam coached Chermiti while they were both at Everton
- Chermiti will have a big part to play in the upcoming season split
Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has given his realistic expectations for Youssef Chermiti at Rangers.
Adam has a strong affection for the Rangers number nine, having worked with Chermiti as a coach at Everton.
The Gers signed the Portuguese U21 international from Everton in September 2025 for an initial £8 million fee.
Adam wants Rangers fans to breathe and give Chermiti time to settle into the club, having joined at a young age.
The former Everton coach knows Chermiti has the tools to be a real handful and could be the “difference maker” in the future.
Here’s what Adam had to say on Chermiti’s expectations and how he can help Rangers at the end of the season.

Charlie Adam’s expectations of Youssef Chermiti
“When he came in, there was so much about the price tag because Rangers haven’t spent £8 million on a player for a few years.”
“So, we all think he should be scoring 30 goals a season. But it doesn’t work like that. You’ve got to think about it.”
“I get that he was at Everton, but he didn’t play much. To come in as the number 9 for Rangers and be the main man – that’s a huge ask for a young player.”
“He’s not coming in at 26 or 27; he arrived as a 21-year-old kid.”
“Of course, we’d expect him to get at least 15 to 20 goals a season at Rangers. But for his first year, I think he’s done OK. He can improve, absolutely.”
“But if he can get four or five between now and the end of the season, it might give Rangers an opportunity to win the title.”
“He could still be the difference-maker for them. And it could get Rangers into the Champions League.”
Slowly starting to pick up speed.
Under Russell Martin, it felt like Chermiti didn’t really get a kick, scoring only two goals before the New Year.
The arrival of Danny Rohl really took the shackles off Chermiti, playing in a more aggressive and dynamic system.
Under Rohl, Chermiti has had much more service coming into the box, and his goal-scoring has improved.
He’s since taken his goals to 11 for the Premiership season, but it’s who the goals are against that’s more impressive.
He’s netted two braces against Celtic and a hat-trick against table-toppers Hearts.
His all-around play has been exceptional, but it’s clear he has the knack to find the net in the biggest games.
He scored two goals against Falkirk at the weekend before we head into the split next week.

In my opinion, Youssef Chermiti was desperate for a coach to take the pressure away and allow him to play.
With Danny Rohl, Chermiti has a manager who allows him to develop and play in a way that enables him to thrive.
He’s already shown he can perform in the biggest games, but it’s about showing that consistency, especially for Rangers.
Charlie Adam knows he has the potential, and he will be crucial in helping Rangers win the title this season.
